앙드레 브라질리에는 1929년 프랑스 소뮈르(Saumur) 출생으로, 파리에 거주하며 현재까지도 활발한 작품활동을 벌이고 있다. 종교미술 화가였던 부친 덕분에 자연스럽게 예술가의 길로 들어서게 된 브라질리에는 1949년 국립미술학교(École Nationale des BeauxArts) 입학 시절 베르나르 뷔페와 함께 활동하였다.

​약관 22세에 플로렌스 블루멘탈(Florence Blumenthal) 상을 수상하였고, 23세에 루이 14세가 제정한 '프리 드 롬 예술상( Prix de Rome de Peinture)'에서 그랑프리를 수상하며 유럽 화단에서 주목을 받았다.

​1959년 첫 전시회 이후 프랑스, 일본, 미국 등 세계 각지에서 전시회를 열었고 프랑스 작가로는 최초로 2005년에 러시아 상트페테르부르크의 에르미타주미술관에서 초대전을 열어 국제적인 명성을 얻었다'
