네덜란드 출신의 영국 화가 피터 릴리(1618년~1680년)는 하를럼 화가 밑에서 배우고 1643년 런던으로 옮겼다. 1650년까지 초상화가로서 명성을 얻었다. 1647년 왕실복고시 수석화가가 되어, 찰스 1세(Charles 1 재위 1625~1649)와 2세(재위 1660~1685)에 관한 많은 초상화를 제작하였고 그의 공방은 매우 번창하였다. 반 다이크의 영향을 받아, 우미함과 깊이에 있어서 그를 따를 자가 없었다. [ 네이버 지식백과 ]
